Project:Kids Yoga
Four Years Ago, I was approached by early childhood educators and youth athletic coaches to lead yoga, meditation and mindfulness classes in different schools and community centers around the city of Cincinnati. So far it has been individual contacts, who have experienced my yoga classes and expressed that their students could benefit from similar classes as well.
These invitations have been more than humbling because yoga was a gift that was given to me by the compassionate work of a non-profit yoga initiative when I was in high school. I always wondered "What if I had access to this transformational coping tool at a younger age; how might that have further impacted my life?" Now, I have (and would like to increase) the opportunity to plant those seeds of mindfulness, movement and breath into hearts of elementary students and young people around Cincinnati.
But one of the central barriers in these invitations is a lack of access to formal funding for this kind of endeavor. That is why I am calling on you, the community, to help create catalyst of mindful change and wellness that starts within our youth.
The money raised will go towards:
1) The purchase of materials to be gifted to every student to help sustain their practice:
Yoga mats
Blocks
Straps
Blankets
Therapy Balls
Thought/ Intention Journals
2) The production of accessible and relevant Yoga Mantra, Poses and Meditation Guide booklets (for all students who participate in the project).
3) Alleviate the cost for the schools to adopt this project (so when approach with this initiative cost is not a barrier).
4) My time and effort. This has to be sustainable for me to maintain the commitments and what is associated (i.e. transportation cost, materials, preparation and energy/time spent).
I hope that you will find this a worthy cause, one that you can champion by donating, sharing on social media and connecting me with your interested contacts.
This "Project: Kids Yoga" campaign will be on going . Periodically, I will compiled the data collected throughout this time (number of participants, ages and quality surveys) to assess what worked and what can be improved to enhance the experience for the students participating. And a part of seeking additional funding I will create formal proposals for grants and larger sponsorship.
